NEW ASIA RISING: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERS IN THE CHANGING OF GLOBAL DYNAMICS

  • East Asia region rise as economic powerhouse competes with the western economies. New emerging economies such as China, India, and Indonesia (+ASEAN region) have surpassed many advanced economies. The total economic size of ASEAN + North East Asia may exceed that of US+ EU, and if India is counted as Asia this total will represent 2/3 of total population of the world and total size of economy may exceed way above North & South America + EU, East Europe and Russia.
  • The rising of China, India and Indonesia plus ASEAN region do not make them only as new economic powerhouse but also has been shifting the global politics as role in global diplomacy arena are arisen. Undoubtedly, the role of these emerging economy countries has changed the global political landscape, and has influenced the balance of global and regional political economy.
  • How this situation and trend create new challenges and opportunities in the area of investment, trade, security, environment sustainability, development and regional cooperation? For instance, closer political and economic cooperation between Asian emerging economies and well-established economies such as Japan and South Korea might make Asia region more powerful than before, creating balance of global political economy with other economic powerhouse such as EU, North America, and Latin America region.
  • The changing of the game in global setting might require a new
perspective as well as the leadership qualities. With that a question of what leadership quality that will make a business, political and social leaders or institutions might able to overcome various regional challenges emerged as result of the changing of political and economic landscape.
  • In order to explore this new realities and challenge its create, the Eisenhower Fellowships alumni in East Asia region will convey and discuss those question in the EF East Asia Conference 2011.
